Maui firefighters remain on the scene of a stubborn brush fire first reported on Saturday morning on Stable Road. As of 4:30 p.m. today, the fire was approximately 80% contained. Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga said some hotspots still remain within the perimeter. Crews will conduct fire patrols and monitoring throughout the night.

The buses will serve to augment Maui’s existing fleet, and serve the growing number of passengers on the Valley Isle. If growth continues at the same rate for the rest of the fiscal year, ridership will have increased by more than a half a million passengers from just one year ago.

Fire Department crews reported seeing flames coming from the area when they were leaving the station. When firefighters from the Wailuku Engine company arrived on scene, they found the home fully engulfed.
