A small group from the Auwahi Forest Restoration Project gathered on the leeward slopes of Haleakalā to return six seedlings of one of the rarest trees in the world, mēhamehame (Flueggea neowawraea) back to the wild. In doing this, the global population of this tree species was increased by 12%.

Oct. 31, 2020 COVID-19 Update: 68 New Cases (46 O‘ahu, 15 Hawai‘i Island, 1 Maui, 6 Out of State) 3 Deaths

There were 68 new COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i today, including 46 on O‘ahu, 15 on Hawai‘i Island, one on Maui (in Kahului), and six in Hawai‘i residents diagnosed outside of the state. Lānaʻi, Moloka‘i and Kaua‘i had no new cases today. To date, there have been 17 cases on the island Molokaʻi and 99 on Lāna‘i and 408 on Maui.

State and Federal Teams Deploy to Lāna‘i as Cases Hover Just Under 100

Next week a team of DOH staff and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention staff will visit Lāna‘i to provide additional on-site support.

There were 94 new COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i today, including 74 on O‘ahu, 14 on Hawai‘i Island, three on Maui, two on Lānaʻi and one on Kaua‘i. Moloka‘i had no new cases today. The Maui cases today were in: Wailuku, Kīhei and Haʻikū. On Lānaʻi, the two new cases bring the total number of infections associated with the recent outbreak to 98, since the outbreak was first reported on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2020.

Ka‘ahumanu Avenue Community Corridor Project Announced

Maui County residents are invited to participate in a study to create a new vision for the roadway corridor along Ka‘ahumanu Avenue and Main Street in Wailuku. The roadway corridor extends 2.5 miles from Ka`ahumanu Avenue in the vicinity of the Maui Mall to Main Street near the State Building in Wailuku town.
