Lahaina Sunset Rotary to Hold Third-Saturday Recycling Event
The next “Go Green Third Saturday Recycling” event will be Sept. 19, from 8 a.m. to noon, at Lahaina Cannery Mall. Virtually all recyclables are accepted except oversize tires, clothing and household goods. There is no fee to drop off items, although a $5 donation is requested for each tire. No fees are paid to residents for recyclables delivered to the event.
SHRM Hawai‘i Chapter to Offer Employee Performance Workshop

New Maui County Farm Bureau TV Show to Air on Akakū
The Maui County Farm Bureau’s new TV show, “Kokua Ag: Growing Our Future Together,” will air on Akakū Channel 55 on Thursday, Sept. 10, at 9 p.m. It will re-air on the same channel on Friday, Sept. 11, at 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 12, at 1 p.m.; and on Sunday, Sept. 13, at 1 p.m.

Sierra Club ‘Underwhelmed’ by NextEra-HEI Merger Rebuttal
Although NextEra Energy Inc. and Hawaiian Electric provided additional, extensive details on NextEra Energy’s plans for its merger with HEI, promising of a total of nearly $1 billion in customer savings and economic benefits to the state, Sierra Club of Hawai‘i says NextEra falls short, adding that the Sierra Club and Earthjustice are “underwhelmed” by the merger rebuttal.

The plaintiffs in the suit against the State of Hawai‘i and its agencies to stop the racially exclusive election and constitutional convention to establish a Native Hawaiians-only nation have filed a motion for a preliminary injunction, according to a press release from the Grassroot Institute of Hawai‘i.

Maui Visitor Arrivals Increase 7.6 Percent in July 2015
Maui arrivals jumped 7.6% to 243,041 visitors. The number of visitors who stayed exclusively on Maui rose 11.2%; day trip visitors decreased by 17.4%. Daily spending on Maui declined 5.3% to $199 per person, impacting total expenditures, which only increased 3.9% to $387.8 million.

The Nature Conservancy of Hawai‘i’s Corporate Council for the Environment raised $240,000 for local conservation in fiscal year 2015 through contributions from 52 businesses.
