Maui police responded to 18 burglaries, 42 vehicle break-ins and 23 vehicle thefts in Maui County over the seven-day period between Sunday, July 5, and Saturday, July 11, 2015.

More than 100 Individuals at Kīhei “Triangle” Disorderly Fight

An investigation finds that the incident started between two large rival groups of individuals from the Happy Valley and Kīhei areas of Maui. While attempting to disburse the crowd and stop the fights, police say officers with the Maui Police Department were allegedly assaulted by individuals, that as yet have not been identified.

Haleakalā’s Holua Area to Close Overnight for Ant Control

Haleakalā National Park ‘s Holua backcountry area will close from the evening of July 16 through late afternoon on July 17 so park biologists can control non-native Argentine ants.

Missing Person: Oliveira Last Seen in Nāhiku on Monday

Police say Oliveira was last seen in Nāhiku at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Monday, July 14, 2015. He is described as 39-years-old, standing 5’11” tall, weighing 180 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

Oceanic Update: Internet/Cable Service Restored to Thousands

Oceanic Time Warner Cable’s general manager for Maui County, Rick Colletto, said the incident resulted in a severed cable to one of the company’s major fiber trunks, affecting a few thousand customers including Paradise TV in Kahului, and customers as far away as Hāna. That’s because one of the lines extends up to Makawao and Haleakala, and is relayed over to East Maui.

Three people were displaced after a fire broke out at a home on Ulupa Place in Spreckelsville last night. The incident was reported at 7:21 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 by a female occupant who reported that she smelled smoke and heard popping sounds coming from the garage.

Governor Signs Emergency Rule for Mauna Kea

Governor Ige said, “The rule is in effect for 120 days only and gives the state an additional tool to keep the road safe for all.” The rule limits the use of the Mauna Kea road between the hours of 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. and prohibits camping equipment in restricted areas.

New FEMA Flood Maps for Maui Take Effect Nov. 4, 2015

These map changes, primarily for Kaunakakai and south shore areas of Molokaʻi, and Kīhei and Waikapū areas on Maui, will become effective on Nov. 4, 2015.
