A 51-year-old woman from California was attacked by a shark about 20 yards off-shore of Makena Landing on Saturday. The woman was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center in stable condition after suffering puncture wounds to her right inner thigh, and lascerations to the front and back of her right hand.

According to PTWC officials, tsunami wave heights across the state are now below advisory levels and continue to diminish. Based on all available data, the PTWC is now cancelling the Tsunami Advisory.

Maui police have since identified the man as 70-year-old Dennis M. Roberts of Kihei. The man was reported missing by his girlfriend after he failed to return from a drive around the island. The man appeared to have suffered severe head injuries, and an autopsy was scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.

Coast Guard officials say the MH-65 Dolphin helicopter was about two miles offshore of O’ahu when the incident occurred, compromising the ability of the flight mechanic and rescue swimmer aboard the craft.

“We are pleased that a major component of the agreement is the installation of a small eight-turbine wind farm that both supports Maui County’s commitment to clean energy and will act as the county’s pilot project for small-scale wind energy facilities,” said Mayor Arakawa.

The promotions are for Fire Fighter IIIs Bram Denhaan, Geoffrey Bogar, Lee Theros, and Shawn Rogers. Promotions for all four individuals goes into effect on Nov. 1, 2012.

The county will be responsible for the installation of at least eight wind turbines capable of generating 55,000 kilowatt hours per year, that will supply up to 38% of the landfill’s power needs.
