Miss Aloha Hula 2024 results: Kaʻōnohikaumakaakeawe Lopes wins title; Maui soloist is first runner up

Kaʻōnohikaumakaakeawe Kananiokeakua Holokai Lopes was named Miss Aloha Hula 2024 at the 61st Annual Merrie Monarch Festival on Thursday night at the Edith Kanakaʻole Stadium in Hilo, Hawaiʻi. Maui’s own Amedée Kauakohemālamalama Conley-Kapoi of  Hālau Kekuaokalāʻauʻalaʻiliahi, under the direction of Nā Kumu Haunani and ʻIliahi Paredes was the first runner up.

Northbound lanes of Honoapiʻilani Highway are closed at Mile 12 in Ukumehame due to power lines hanging from poles. At 8:42 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, traffic was being contra-flowed using the south bound lanes.

Maui robotics teams compete in Japan Cup; next stop, World Championship in Dallas

Pukalani Elementary and Kalama Intermediate’s robotics teams competed and took top honors in the Japan Cup where teams competed March 23 in the VEX IQ Full Volume challenge at Showa Women’s University in Tokyo. They competed and worked with teams from Japan, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Thailand and Hawaiʻi.

$1M in NATIVE Act funding for Native Hawaiian Organizations

The Department of the Interior’s Office of Native Hawaiian Relations today announced $1 million in funding for Native Hawaiian Organizations through the Heritage Opportunities in Hawaiʻi grant program. The funding is made possible by the Native American Tourism and Improving Visitor Experience Act, which enables Indigenous communities to participate in national tourism goals and strategies.

Pre-rolled cannabis flowers added as approved medical marijuana product

Gov. Josh Green has approved an amended rule to add pre-rolled cannabis flower products, also known as “pre-rolls,” to what may be produced and dispensed at licensed medical cannabis dispensaries in Hawaiʻi. The new rules go into effect April 5.
