Closures continue on Kaʻahumanu Ave.
The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation advises highway users that eastbound and westbound lanes of Kaʻahumanu Ave. (Route 32) between Kāne St. and Lono Ave. will be impacted by water line work for the Maui Palms Hampton Inn project from Monday, Oct. 7 through Friday morning, Oct. 11.

Chief Warrant Officer 2 Paden Hoopii, from Maui, graduated from the Limited Duty Officer/Warrant Officer/Chief Warrant Officer (LDO/WO/CWO) Academy on Sept. 27. Hoopii, a 2008 Baldwin High School graduate, joined the Navy 16 years ago.

Two Maui-based American Medical Response paramedics have deployed for two weeks to the Carolinas on the US East Coast to help survivors of Hurricane Helene. The hurricane has killed at least 220 people on the US East Coast, including 98 deaths in North Carolina.

Volcano Watch: First flight for HVO’s new airborne lidar system
Topographic mapping has been a key component of volcano monitoring for decades, helping scientists to study morphologic changes and predict the paths of lava flows during eruptions. Lidar systems are a preferred mapping tool and the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory now has a lidar system of its own to generate mapping products more frequently than ever before.
