The Equal Access to Abortion Act expands access by allowing Advanced Practice Registered Nurses to provide abortion services. Previously, only physicians were allowed to provide abortion.
Maui Jail Clear of COVID-19 Cases
The Maui Community Correctional Center is now clear of all active COVID-19 cases, according to the state Department of Public Safety. The department today reported that the remaining two inmates with active positive cases have since recovered.
April 12, 2021 COVID-19 Update: 70 Cases (48 O‘ahu, 15 Maui, 5 Hawai‘i Island, 2 Out-of-State)
The state Department of Health reports that there were 70 additional COVID-19 cases reported in Hawai‘i on Monday, including 48 on O‘ahu, 15 on Maui, five on Hawai‘i Island, and two in Hawai‘i residents diagnosed while out of state. There were a total of 1,278 cases logged over the past two weeks, 317 of them in Maui County.

Hawaiʻi’s Keck Observatory Aids in Discovery of Rare “Quadruply Imaged Quasars”
Machine-learning techniques led a team of astronomers to discover a dozen quasars that have been warped by a naturally occurring cosmic “lens” and split into four similar images. Quasars are extremely luminous cores of distant galaxies that are powered by supermassive black holes.

Preliminary Data: 6,441 Passengers Arriving Daily to Kahului, Maui
Here on Maui, April numbers are exceeding pre-pandemic levels for the same period in 2018 and 2019. The DBEDT preliminary data shows that so far in April, there’s an average of 6,441 passengers arriving daily to Kahului Airport on domestic (including mainland and interisland) flights, up 7.2 percent (433 more passengers) from two years ago in 2019, and up 14 percent (793 more passengers) from three years ago in 2018.
