The Maui Fire Department is encouraging the public not to hesitate to call 911 when they see flames, see or smell smoke. The reminder was issued as numerous hotspots have emerged in the Upcountry area in recent months, that have been smouldering underground since the August wildfires.

There were two 9/11 ceremonies, one at the Kahului Fire Station on Dairy Road and the other held at the main security checkpoint at Kahului Airport.

The Department is now receiving fast and accurate location data from iPhones with iOS 12 using the RapidSOS NG911 Clearinghouse.

Police say that per Hawaiian Telcom, customers with landline service are only able to call within Hāna.
