Hawaiian Council partners with Broadway producer to premiere ‘The Epic Tale of Hiʻiaka’ at 2025 Native Hawaiian Convention

The Hawaiian Council, a nonprofit advancing Native Hawaiians and Hawai‘i, has partnered with WitzEnd Productions, an award-winning Broadway production company, to preview “The Epic Tale of Hiʻiaka” during the 2025 Native Hawaiian Convention, the largest annual gathering of Native Hawaiians, on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2025, at the Tulalip Resort & Casino in Washington.

Education bill funding program that combines culture with academics, continues to advance

Senate Bill 529 SD1 relating to education seeks to appropriate funds to expand the Hoʻākea Program, an educational initiative that integrates Hawaiian cultural practices with academic subjects to engage students and promote environmental stewardship.

The event entitled GENERATIONS: AMY & ERIC GILLIOM features the talented sister/brother pairing of Amy Hānaialiʻi Gilliom and Eric Gilliom. Together they will perform in both concert and talk story formats for an up close and personal experience streamed from the MACC’s Castle Theater stage.

Cultural Icon to be Honored with Concert and Dinner

Local cultural icon Kumu Kimokeo Kapahulehua will be honored with the Hui o Waʻa Kaulua’s Legacy Award at The King Kamehameha Golf Club in Wailuku on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. The event includes dinner, a fashion show, polynesian crafters and a musical performance by Amy Hānaialiʻi Gilliom, Willie K and Steve Grimes.
