Steven Capobianco was sentenced today to life in prison with the possibility of parole for the second degree murder charge. He was also sentenced to a maximum period of 10 year term for the offense of arson in the second degree, to be served consecutively.

The next phase of the ongoing murder trial of Steven Capobianco got underway on Wedneday with the defense calling to the stand a GIS map specialist and two employees from Mana Foods who had worked with the defendant.

The ongoing murder trial for Steven Capobianco is scheduled for a two week break due to juror schedules. Maui Police Department evidence specialist Anthony Earls returned to the stand several times last week with questioning focused on the police processing of evidence in the case.

Police answered questions about the chemical processing of Steven Capobianco’s vehicle for the presence of blood, and the execution of a search warrant to collect hair samples from the defendant as part of their homicide investigation.

Pointing out at least 10 consistencies, a Maui orthodontist confirmed that a jawbone found at Nuaʻailua during the search for Charli Scott, belonged to the missing woman.

Capobianco Murder Trial: Police then came across a jawbone, clumps of hair and a bra that had investigators shift their focus to a more refined search for evidence involving the disappearance of Charli Scott.

Lincoln had interviewed the defendant within days of the disappearance and said there were “quite a few” details that she learned from that initial phone call.

Update, 9:32 a.m.: Capobianco has pleaded not-guilty.

“There’s still two women that are missing. There’s very little information, and we really want the families to have some resolution,” said Stacey Moniz, executive director for Women Helping Women on Maui.

A rally is planned this afternoon to bring awareness to missing women cases on Maui. The Women Helping Women organization will host the event at 4 p.m. today fronting the Queen Kaʻahumau Center in Kahului

Maui police today re-classified the missing person case involving Carly “Charli” Scott as a homicide investigation.

Two fundraisers are planned tonight as part of the Kīhei Fourth Friday town party at the Azeka Shopping Center in South Maui.
