New law raises the age for kids to use a child passenger restraint in Hawaiʻi

If the child is seven years of age or older but less than 10 years of age, the person operating the motor vehicle shall be exempt from restraining the child in a child passenger restraint system with harness or booster seat that meets federal motor vehicle safety standards at the time of manufacture if the child is correctly restrained by a lap and shoulder seat belt assembly; provided that the child is over four feet and nine inches in height.

Maui Click it or Ticket campaign nets 633 citations, 11 arrests

The Click It or Ticket, national seat belt awareness campaign netted 270 seatbelt violations and 217 violations for using a mobile electronic device while driving. There were also citations issued for other violations.

Hawai‘i Participates in National Child Passenger Safety Week

The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT), together with all four county police departments and child passenger safety advocates, will participate in National Child Passenger Safety Week, Sept. 15 to 21, 2019.

8 Out of 10 Child Car Seats Installed Incorrectly, Inspection June 20

A Maui Child Car Seat Inspection and Child ID event takes place this Saturday, June 20, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Maui Marketplace in Kahului. Coordinator, Charles Hirata tells Maui Now that inspectors will be instructing parents and caregivers on the proper use and installation of child restraints and will be making Child ID cards as well.
