The crew of the US Coast Guard Cutter Kimball offloaded approximately 18,898 pounds of cocaine, with an estimated value of more than $214.3 million, on Thursday in San Diego.   The Coast Guard Cutter Kimball is one of two legend-class national security cutters homeported in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi. 

Workplace drug testing results by Diagnostic Laboratory Services, Inc., showed increases in the positivity rate in the four major drug classes from Q3 to Q4 2019.

Diagnostic Laboratory Services, Inc. is reporting no significant changes in the use of amphetamines and cocaine between the second and third quarter of 2019.

The Coast Guard’s boarding team seized more than 2,100 pounds of cocaine from the suspected drug-smuggling vessel during the cutter’s transit from the Pascagoula shipyard where Midgett was built to the cutter’s future homeport in Honolulu where the cutter is scheduled for commissioning during a dual-commissioning ceremony August 24

For the second quarter in a row, more synthetic urine is being submitted by people trying to cheat the workplace drug testing system.

Diagnostic Laboratory Services: Year-end workforce drug tests show marijuana up and amphetamines down; but all categories showed increases in the fourth quarter

A Hawaiʻi Island Police Department employee has since retired after being placed on administrative leave following an investigation into missing drug evidence.

Maui officers recovered 200 marijuana plants. Officers also seized 15.66 grams of marijuana concentrate, cocaine, MDMA or ecstasy, xanax pills and US currency.

Tests show that crystal meth is trending down and the use of synthetic urine to mask drug use in tests is trending up.

The increase in cocaine abuse is significant even though the usage is low in comparison to most of the other drugs. Methamphetamine, or ice use, declined by 22% year over year, but is still at about 0.7%, which is about four times the average ice use found in workforce drug testing on the mainland.
