$4B Global Settlement reached toward resolution of wildfire lawsuits; Agreement is subject to court approval

Today, following months of good faith negotiations, the County signed a Term Sheet with key participants in the lawsuits arising out of the tragic Maui wildfires of August 8, 2023. The agreement outlines the framework for a global settlement that would resolve claims and disputes related to the fires that devastated Lahaina and other communities on the island. 

Maui County Won’t Appeal Decision on Operation of Lahaina Wastewater Facility

The County of Maui today announced it has come to a resolution on the Hawaiʻi Wildlife lawsuit involving operation of the Lahaina Wastewater Reclamation Facility. County officials say they will not appeal Judge Susan Oki Mollway’s decision.

Attorney General Declines to Prosecute Wong

AG’s Office: “This review failed to demonstrate that Wong was engaged in an act of domestic violence pursuant to the laws of the State of Hawaiʻi.”

Wong was arrested early Saturday, March 9, by police at a residence in Wailuku. He was charged with abuse of a household member and has since posted bail.
