Kanu Hawaiʻi invites Oʻahu and Maui communities to ‘E Ala E for Earth Day’
Kanu Hawaiʻi, a nonprofit organization connecting people with volunteer opportunities, invites residents and visitors to “E Ala E for Earth Day” (Arise), a community sunrise ceremony honoring World Earth Day. Temporary South, Central Maui park and facility closures set this month

A Brown Water Advisory has been issued at multiple coastlines around Central, South and West Maui including: Waihe’e to Kahului Harbor; Uwapo Road to Cove Park; Māʻalaea to McGregor Point; Puamana to Pāpalaua; Kahana Village; Hanakaʻōʻō Beach Park; and DT Fleming Beach Park.
Parking lot at Cove Park in Kīhei closed Aug. 5-30 for work to address safety concerns
The parking lot at Cove Park in Kīhei will be closed temporarily from Aug. 5 to 30, 2024, for beautification efforts and addressing safety concerns. The work will include resurfacing and painting parking stalls to maintain and improve the parking area, the Department of Parks and Recreation announced.
High Bacteria Count Advisory issued at Cove Park, Maui
The public is advised of a water quality exceedance of enterococci at Cove Park, Maui. Levels of 164 per 100 mL have been detected during routine beach monitoring. The beach has been posted and this advisory will remain in effect until water sample results no longer exceed the threshold level of 130 enterococci per 100 mL

The Hawai‘i State Department of Health has canceled the high bacteria notification for Cove Park, Maui. Water sample retesting results show that enterococci levels no longer exceed the threshold level, according to an update issued on Friday afternoon.

Waterline Repair to Impact Traffic at ʻIliʻili Road in Kīhei
The work will result in the closure of the entrance to ʻIliʻili Road from South Kīhei Road between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Water will be shut off at Cove Park only during repairs.
Cove Park Incident Likely Not a Shark Bite
Fire officials say a bite incident at Cove Park in South Maui this morning was likely not caused by a shark. Firefighters from Kīhei responded to Cove Park at 8:55 a.m. on Monday, March 10, 2014 for a report of a possible shark bite, said Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.
