Maui Fire Department responds to multiple brush fires and 7 rubbish bin fires during New Year’s holiday

Fireworks Likely Cause of Kīhei Fire: Two Homes Destroyed, Four Others Damaged

A witness did hear children playing with fireworks behind the homes immediately before the fire began. Fireworks remnants were also found in the area.

Maui Fire and Rescue Respond to 35 Alarms on 4th of July

The incidents included a brush fire in the Paukūkalo Hawaiian Homes subdivision; and three trash can fires, all of which contained visible firework remnants and debris, said Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.

Maui fire officials have ruled out fireworks as a possible cause of a Kahului home fire that was reported shortly before 10:30 a.m. on New Year’s Eve. The fire at 547 Kunu Place, was called in by neighbors who reported seeing smoke in the area.
