Thanks to Kula resident Arnie Koss and his twin brother, Ron, there’s a new choice in Hawaiʻi for ice cream lovers who want a treat that’s both richly delicious and smartly nutritious. The new product, Brio, can be found at all Foodland, Sack N Save, KTA and Don Quijote stores statewide, as well as in Pukalani Superette, Haʻi-kū Grocery Store and Island Grocery Depot on Maui.

Event organizers say 200 people planted 100 coconut trees and over 2 acres of taro, sweet potato and yams, as a statement that “the community can and will feed itself without Monsanto.”

Organizers say they intend to plant food “with a goal of bringing Maui one step closer to food sovereignty and a future that is not dependent on chemical agriculture.”

Members of the SHAKA Movement rallied in front of the county building in Wailuku today before delivering a final list of signatures to the County Clerk’s office in support of a moratorium on the cultivation of genetically-engineered organisms or GMOs in Maui County.

The Bee The Change international march attracted anti-GMO supporters in a procession that began at War Memorial Stadium and continued along Kaʻahumanu Avenue in Kahului on Saturday afternoon.
