UH Maui College club to host action-packed Earth Day celebration
The University of Hawaiʻi Maui College’s Student ʻOhana for Sustainability (SOS) club is partnering with Maui Huliau Foundation and Hulihia to host its annual Earth Day celebration on the campus Great Lawn and back parking lot on Monday, April 22 from 3 to 6 p.m.
Kīpahulu District of Haleakalā Reopens on Weekdays Starting July 22
Beginning Wednesday, July 22, 2020 the Kīpahulu District of Haleakalā National Park will reopen for day-use only Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Pīpīwai Trail and Kūloa Point Trail will also reopen.
Hosmer Campground, ʻOheʻo Pools Closed
The Hosmer Grove Campground and Nature Trail is closed due to hazardous trees; and the Pools at ʻOheʻo is closed due to effects from Tropical Storm Darby.
Haleakalā Headquarters Visitor Center to Re-open, March 17
The Headquarters Visitor Center of Haleakalā National Park will re-open at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17, after a Feb. 25 closure, when staff reported a cracked beam in the ceiling of the facility.
Haleakalā Partners with Macy’s for Funding Campaign
Maui shoppers at Macy’s in the Kaʻahumanu Shopping Center will be given the option at check-out to donate $1 or more to Haleakalā National Park as part of the “Heart Your Park” campaign.
Lost Hiker Finds Way out of Crater After Overnight Search
Officials at Haleakala National Park say the hiker had found his own way out of the crater overnight through Kaupo Gap and apparently hitchhiked back in relatively good condition.
Haleakala to Close Overlooks for Maintenance
Work is limited to between mid-November and early February to avoid impacts to the ‘Ua’u, the endangered Hawaiian Petrel, that nest in these areas. The park will temporarily close the Kalahaku and Leleiwi Overlooks for maintenance beginning on Monday, November 28, 2011.
