To kick off the new school year, the Chan Zuckerberg Kauaʻi Community Fund of the Hawaiʻi Community Foundation has committed more than $330,000 in unrestricted funds to support Kauaʻi’s 16 public schools, seven public charter schools, and Kumu’s Cupboard, a nonprofit that provides free supplies to teachers and other educational support staff year-round through its store in Līhuʻe.  

For many keiki in Hawai‘i, a school meal is their only nutritious meal of the day. As the school year ends, families across Hawai‘i can take advantage of a range of free programs to ensure children and youth have access to healthy meals during the summer.

More than 200 high school students from a dozen public schools across Hawaiʻi will be gathering for the third annual “Dive Into Education” event to learn more about the teaching profession from Hawai‘i educators.

A final environmental impact statement and finding of no significant impact has been completed for the $16 million Pi‘ilani Highway overpass project.

The Hawai‘i State Department of Education is reaching out to potential vendors, including farmers and distributors, to gather product information and feedback as part of an effort to increase locally sourced food in public schools.
