The enrollment will be effective for up to 60 days from Dec. 18, and participating Hawaiʻi health insurance plans have agreed to make coverage retroactive to Jan. 1, 2016 to avoid any gaps during the special enrollment period.

The public is invited to learn about the Hawai‘i Health Connector’s 2016 open enrollment period at the Lahaina Public Library starting Saturday, Nov. 21 and on specified days through Jan. 30, 2016.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services found the Hawaiʻi Health Connector to be non-compliant with the Affordable Care Act earlier this year.

A total of 737 bills of the 1,515 bills originally introduced by House members in the 2015 legislature reached final committee by today’s first lateral deadline.

A Maui enrollment event is planned from 5 p.m. to midnight on Sunday at Nursing Hand Hawaiʻi, located at 504B Liholiho Street in Wailuku. The Hawaiʻi Health Connector is a private non-profit organization established to help Hawaiʻi’s families and small businesses to reduce the number of uninsured individuals.

The state announced the release of its healthcare transformation plan, the culmination of a six-month planning process aimed at “better care, better health, and lower costs.”
