Wildfire impacts result in unavailable vacation rental units on Maui in September 2023

Many vacation rental units continued to be unavailable in West Maui in September due to the Maui wildfires that occurred in Lahaina on Aug. 8, 2023.

HTA: Maui County Hotels were 8.6 Percent Occupied With an ADR of $207 in August

The Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority report showed Maui County with 123,100 available unit nights in August, which is a decrease of 57.9% compared to a year ago, the largest vacation rental supply in all four counties; unit demand also decreased 94.7% with 12,100 unit nights, resulting in 9.8% occupancy with an ADR of $229.

Maui Leads State with Largest Vacation Rental Supply in November

In November, Maui County had the largest vacation rental supply of all four counties at 304,000 unit nights, according to a new report compiled by the Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority’s Research Division.

Maui Timeshares Averaged 91.3% Occupancy in 2017

Contributing to the decline in occupancy was the increase in supply with the opening of the new 195-unit Westin Nanea Ocean Villas in April 2017.
