The Lt. Governor started her visit by greeting students in Korean and sharing with them her own language experiences and stressing the value of speaking the language of one’s culture. 

Maui County acquires 1.4 acres in ʻĪao Valley from Hawaiʻi Nature Center

The purchase surfaced for discussion in July when Mayor Michael Victorino transmitted a proposal to the Maui County Council to purchase the acreage and the structure that was the former ʻĪao Valley Lodge in ʻĪao Valley for $1.5 million from the Hawaiʻi Nature Center.  The purchase includes existing structures and two parcels that total approximately 1.4 acres.

New spice company on Maui donates to nonprofit in support of Hawaiian immersion

A $1,250 donation was presented by the Paia Spice Company to Nā Leo Kākoʻo O Maui on Friday, as part of a long-term commitment to give back to the Hawaiian culture.

Amendments Aim to Promote Native Language Education, Improve School Facilities

US Senator Brian Schatz introduced the amendments. Both items were adopted by the US Senate as part of the Every Child Achieves Act in an 81 to 17 vote.
