In addition to containing the recently-renegotiated Compacts of Free Association, the package includes the text of Sen. Hirono’s Compact Impact Fairness Act to restore access to a range of federal benefits for COFA citizens who reside in the US, including nearly 20,000 in Hawaiʻi. The package, which passed in the US House of Representatives on Wednesday, now heads to President Biden’s desk to be signed into law.

After receiving nearly 200 applications and reading so many compelling stories, the company made the decision to increase its overall donation to accommodate more charities and to spread it among 25 nonprofit organizations across the four states it serves.

This holiday season, Hawaiian Electric donated $141,500 to more than a dozen local nonprofit groups and educational organizations that contribute to the cultural enrichment, education and health and welfare of Hawaiʻi keiki and families across the state.
