Bank of Hawaiʻi marked the grand opening of its new Lahaina Branch on Maui on Monday with a private blessing ceremony and a donation of $100,000 to provide support to Lahaina residents who are at risk of losing their homes to foreclosure. Its previous location on Papalaua Street was destroyed in the 2023 wildfires.

This contribution represents a quarter of all funds awarded to Hawaiʻi organizations and will support a range of initiatives focused on affordable housing, financial education and community revitalization, including Lahaina homeowner recovery efforts.

To celebrate 100 years of serving Hawaiʻi, American Savings Bank is giving back with a $100,000 donation to local nonprofits through the newly launched ASB Charitable Foundation. Ten organizations will each receive $10,000 – and the public is invited to decide the recipients by voting online.

Hawaiʻi Community Lending announces a new Lahaina Homeowner Recovery Program. This three-year program will assist up to 500 owner-occupant Lahaina homeowners prevent foreclosure and qualify for financing to rebuild their homes.

The bank’s employees from the former Lahaina Branch on Papalaua Street that was lost in the fire will be staffing the new location. FHB will be submitting applications for permits to begin construction at the Lahaina Cannery location and hopes to expedite the development of the new location.

After four and a half years as the Executive Director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Hawai‘i, Joshua Wisch has announced he will be leaving in mid-May to lead a new Hawaiʻi-based nonprofit organization.
