The US Supreme Court ruled today in a case with sweeping national impact involving homelessness, by deciding 6-3 in favor of the City of Grants Pass, Oregon, which enacted anti-camping regulations that imposed civil punishment for homeless people sleeping in public places.
Council votes to close Holomua Road amid fears of wildfire in Pāʻia
Maui County Council members set aside concerns about displacing two dozen homeless people from Holomua Road and the possibility of a legal challenge, and they decided Friday to restrict public access to a lower portion of the road and close its upper section.
Council supports closures of Holomua Road for public safety in Pāʻia

Maui Fire Department crews responded to 20 emergency calls for fires over the Fourth of July holiday. The majority of these fires were small brush fires and rubbish bin fires which could be quickly extinguished, according to department reports; however, there were two brush fires that required response from multiple units.

Police ID Victim in Homicide Investigation as Keenan Blair
Maui police today identified the male victim in Saturday’s Pāʻia homicide investigation as 20-year-old Keenan Blair. Police say Blair and Allen knew each other, but say the reason for this incident is still being investigated.
