Queen Kaʻahumanu Center launched its inaugural 808 Bash on Aug. 24, bringing Maui together in celebration of community. Organizers say the success of this event has set the tone for what is hoped to become a new annual tradition for the island.

Tamara Tanaka has been named the new Executive Director of Maui Hui Mālama, a nonprofit organization which provides programs to help Maui youth overcome barriers to education, careers, and cultural goals.

In commemoration of 100 years of serving its customers and communities on Maui, Moloka‘i, and Lāna‘i, Hawaiian Electric is recognizing 21 non-profit organizations across the county with a total contribution of over $11,000.

Hawai‘i will receive $26,992,923 in new federal funding to support grants under the Native Hawaiian Education Program. The funding was awarded to 23 Native Hawaiian educational programs across the state. 

After serving as the Executive Director for Maui Hui Mālama for 12 years, Pualani Enos will be stepping down from her position on April 30, 2019.

Maui Electric Company donated more than $148,000 in monetary contributions and over 1,400 volunteer hours to non-profit and community organizations across Maui.

Maui Electric Company and the Hawaiian Electric Industries Charitable Foundation presented Smart electric vehicles to the University of Hawai‘i Maui College, Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui, and Maui Hui Malama.

Maui County residents will have improved health care facilities in Hāna, a resource center for Heritage Hall in Pā‘ia, and a park for Kalamaula Homesteaders on Moloka‘i after a panel of state lawmakers reached an agreement Tuesday on the overall state budget for the current biennium, lawmakers announced.

The bill now goes before the full House and Senate for a final vote on Tuesday, April 29, 2014. Maui organizations included on the list are: Maui Family Support Services, Maui Economic Development Board, Hale Mahaolu, Maui Economic Opportunity, Hui Mālama Learning Center, and the Maui High School Booster Club.
