Animated films preserve Lahaina memories at Queen Kaʻahumanu Center

Maui Public Art Corps in collaboration with Maui County’s Public Art Program will unveil four animated short films preserving Lahaina memories on Aug. 27 at Queen Kaʻahumanu Center to support long-term community recovery following the 2023 wildfires.

Two short films feature public artworks in Lahaina

Two project films featuring the latest public artworks in Lahaina are being release. The films were created through the collaborative Hui Mo‘olelo: Lahaina program of Maui Public Art Corps, the County of Maui, Hale Hōʻikeʻike at the Bailey House/ Maui Historical Society and the Lahaina Restoration Foundation. 

Maui Public Art Corps begins mural at Lahaina Health Clinic

A mural surrounding the temporary Kaiser Permanente Lahaina Clinic will be painted beginning this week, with a blessing and public unveiling scheduled for the end of November 2024. The project is part of the Maui Public Art Corps’ Hui Mo‘olelo: Lahaina program, which cultivates stories celebrating Lahaina history, culture and sense of place and engages community members to co-design art that is directly rooted in these stories.

‘Vanishing’ Mural at Maui Ocean Center Highlights Plight of Hawai‘i’s Coral Reefs

In honor of Earth Day, The Nature Conservancy commissioned Hawaii-born artist Jana Ireijo to paint a mural at the Maui Ocean Center that highlights the perils faced by Hawaiʻi’s coral reefs.
