7 Maui Firefighters Promoted: Two to Captain, Five to Firefighter III
Promotions for Fire Captains Kaulana Kino, Sean Simon, and Firefighter III, Wayne Tashiro, took effect May 16, 2015. Promotions for Firefighter III’s Maroe Smith, Parrish Purdy, Greg Shinyama, and Garren Oura was effective May 1, 2015.
Kaupō Fire Rekindles, Burns Additional 25 Acres
The affected area was located at the 2,000-foot elevation, and was called 100% contained at 7 p.m. Crews will continue to monitor the burn area overnight and into tomorrow.
Fireworks Found at Kaupō Fire, Arson Suspected
“The time of day the fireworks were lit in the Kaupō incident indicate that this fire may have not been accidental,” according to information attributed to the fire chief in information released by the department today.
MFD 29th Recruit Class Graduation
The newest firefighters for the Maui Fire Department are: Robert Alexander, Kamaui Aiona, Michael Kalalau, Merrit Kaufman, Kanoa Nishiki, Tyler Pascual, Kai Evermore, Bronson Pocock, Kaleo Puaa, Brandon Sturm, and Nicholas Tanaka.
Federal Funds Support Smoke Alarm Program on Maui
The Maui County Department of Fire and Public Safety will begin installing smoke alarms at high risk homes in October, under the federally funded Smoke Alarm Maui Program.
