Oceanic Time Warner Cable’s general manager for Maui County, Rick Colletto, said the incident resulted in a severed cable to one of the company’s major fiber trunks, affecting a few thousand customers including Paradise TV in Kahului, and customers as far away as Hāna. That’s because one of the lines extends up to Makawao and Haleakala, and is relayed over to East Maui.

Police say the man was trying to cross the road outside of an unmarked crosswalk when he was struck by a gray 2000 Toyota RAV4 being operated by a 50-year-old Makawao resident. The pedestrian was initially transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition, but police say he later succumbed to his injuries and died.

A 16-year-old Paia girl was extricated from a vehicle involved in a two-car collision this morning on Ka’ahumanu Avenue in Kahului, authorities said.

A 48-year-old Wailuku man was transported to Queens Medical Center on Oahu in critical condition today following an early morning accident in Kahului.
