Update/Open: Department of Health closes Maui Beach Ballroom due to cockroach infestation
Update (8:26 a.m., Jan. 16, 2026) The Hawai‘i Department of Health Maui Food Safety Branch issued Maui Beach Ballroom a green placard on Jan. 15, 2026, authorizing its reopening after a follow-up inspection showed the cockroach infestation to be eliminated. All areas of harborage and attractant within the kitchen were also observed to be cleaned and repaired.
Four recruits graduate joining the ranks of the Maui Ocean Safety Bureau
Makai Farm, Harrison Cannon, James McNeil and Jacob Jacinto completed the 12-week training program. Cannon was given the award for the Best Overall Recruit. The “Surf 50” award, created in memory of fallen Ocean Safety Officer Randy Hillen, was given to Jacinto.
Hanaka‘ō‘ō Beach Park Parking Lot Improvements Announced
The Hawai‘i Department of Parks and Recreation announced a project to improve drainage, install new parking lot asphalt and provide ADA-accessible access to a restroom at Hanakaʻōʻō Beach Park. The park’s driveway and parking lot will be closed during the project’s construction from Oct. 12, 2020 through March 2021.
Second Phase of Reopening Maui County Parks Begins Saturday, May 16
Mayor Michael Victorino announced the reopening of additional County parks and beach parks will take place on Saturday, May 16. The reopening of parks facilities includes select tennis and pickleball courts. County parks and beach parks included on the list below will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
