In an uncharacteristic move, Maui Mayor Michael Victorino detailed proposed changes to the County’s Emergency COVID-19 Rules and Orders, that if approved, are expected to take effect at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 17, 2021.

Free drive-through testing for COVID-19 will be available to meet community demand in Kīhei on Friday, Sept. 24, and in Lahaina on Saturday, Sept. 25. Rapid antigen tests will be administered by Minit Medical Urgent Care.

There were 330 additional COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i on Wednesday. The latest data represents a total of 7,106 “active” cases over two weeks.

The confirmed cases included: 22 on O‘ahu (+2 probable); two on Hawai‘i Island (-1 probable); two on Maui (+1 probable); one on Kaua‘i; and one in a Hawai‘i resident diagnosed while out of state.

Maui County was honored with an Achievement Award in the Health Category for its Community-Based COVID-19 Testing Programs. The award, issued by the National Association of Counties, highlights innovative, effective county government programs that strengthen services for residents.

Governor David Ige has verbally approved Maui Mayor Michael Victorino’s request to allow Maui County residents to travel solely between Maui, Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi without having to quarantine for 14 days or take a pre-travel test.

Minit Medical is conducting drive-through testing this week at three different locations on Maui: Wednesday: Lahaina Aquatic Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Thursday: South Maui Community Park from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and Friday: Keōpūolani Park from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
