Maui Mayor Michael Victorio said any closures “would really depend on a number of factors,” but narrowed the scope to a sustained period of seven days of double digit increases in Maui County.

“Do not be surprised in the next couple of days we jump astronomically.  I’m looking at 15 to 18 new cases that they call ‘are in the queue’ and have not been confirmed, but are probably positive,” said Mayor Victorino.

MECO’s circuits in Lahaina, Olowalu, Kahului, Haiku and parts of Kihei have reached the 15% threshold for small-scale renewable energy systems, preventing some residents from connecting them to the grid.
