Maui police recovered drugs and counterfeit money during a search on Tuesday of a Nāpili home where suspected drug activity was reported.

Ruben Settle, 38, was sentenced on Monday, June 29 by Chief District Judge Susan Oki Mollway to 210 months in prison for his role in a plan to distribute methamphetamine on the Island of Maui. Evidence presented in court showed that Settle recruited other individuals to assist him in the distribution, including approximately 700 grams of “ice” that was seized from Settle by Maui police on Dec. 17, 2014.

Jon Hans Kaapuni, Jr., 35, of Kaunakakai, was sentenced yesterday by US District Court Judge J. Michael Seabright for his role in the drug case, which involved five or more other members.

Erath Kaihewalu, 21, of Wailuku was arrested and charged at 5:26 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, for an outstanding indictment warrant for attempted murder and multiple drug charges including methamphetamine trafficking.

John Lee Balberdi, 39, was arrested and prosecuted after more than 550 grams of pure methamphetamine was seized from a Kahului home of a co-conspirator in February of 2009, said US Attorney Florence Nakakuni.
