Largest intern cohort in STEMworks program history completes summer internships
This summer, the Maui Economic Development Board’s (MEDB) STEMworks program welcomed its largest cohort of interns to date. A total of 89 high school and college students from across the state participated—64 in the STEMworks Innovation Internship program, and 25 in the Maui County Agriculture Business and Technology program.
Kaulunani offers grant opportunity for Arbor Day in Hawaiʻi 2024
Kaulunani Urban and Community Forestry, a program of the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife, is now seeking grant proposals from community organizations that would like to share the benefits of trees with their communities for Arbor Day 2024. Hawaiʻi set to receive $7.6M to protect coastal communities, fish and wildlife
The funding includes $354,000 to Mālama Haleakalā Foundation to do site assessment and preliminary design for a detention basin along Kūlanihāko’i Stream. There’s also $255,300 for Molokaʻi Land Trust to wetland restoration planning.

Hawai‘i Tourism Authority Awards $3.56 Million to Support 130 Programs
A total of seven programs in Maui County received funding including: the Moloka‘i Land Trust; Ma Ka Hāna Ka Ike Building Program; Coral Reef Alliance; The Nature Conservancy; Maui Nui Botanical Gardens; Friends of Auwahi Forest Restoration Project; and the Maui Nui Marine Resource Council.
Removal of Kiawe Sparks Native Recovery at Mo’omomi
The conservation organization has been working with the Molokaʻi Land Trust to restore the area by removing alien kiawe thickets and allowing the area to regenerate with native growth.
‘Ilio Point Propopsed as Natural Area Reserve
