Hawaiian Electric to install acoustic seabird detectors on Maui
Hawaiian Electric will be installing up to 125 acoustic seabird detectors on its poles in various locations across Maui starting Monday, April 20 to Monday, Nov. 30, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., weather permitting. Hawaiian Electric is installing the acoustic detectors to identify possible locations of seabird collisions that occur along power lines, if any, the company reports.
Hawaiian Electric to install bird diverters using drones in Launiupoko, Maui
Hawaiian Electric will be installing power line markers also known as bird diverters on its electrical infrastructure using unmanned aircrafts, or drones, in the Launiupoko, West Maui area starting as early as Dec. 15 to Dec. 21, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily and weather permitting. Electric service will not be impacted.
New seabird restoration project highlights connection between culture and conservation
A seabird restoration project was initiated this week at Nuʻalolo Kai on the rugged and remote Nā Pali coast of Kauaʻi. The project is a partnership of multiple organizations and aims to restore seabird populations that have been lost from the site due to introduced predators.
