Hawaiian Electric recently presented a donation of two 2012 Nissan Leaf electric vehicles to the University of Hawai‘i Maui College’s Native Hawaiian Career and Technical Educational Program to provide mechanics hands-on experience in maintaining and repairing EVs.

Customers of Hawaiian Electric, Maui Electric and Hawaiʻi Electric Light Companies who buy a new 2016 or 2017 LEAF can receive a $10K rebate.

Customers of Hawaiian Electric, Maui Electric and Hawaiʻi Electric Light Companies who buy a new 2016 or 2017 LEAF S, SV, or SL can receive the rebate at purchase. Combining the special rebate and $7,500 in federal tax incentives, utility customers could save up to $17,500.

Maui Now test drove the Nissan Leaf at the April 27 EVA conference, and found it smooth, fast and comfortable – a car in every respect, except that it’s totally silent and it doesn’t use gas.
