Maui Police Kick Off Impaired Driving Awareness With Memorial Checkpoint

The Maui Police Department will dedicate the checkpoint to the memory of Hannah Brown, who was 19 years old when she was killed by an impaired driver on June 23, 2019. She would have celebrated her 22 birthday this year.

“Further checks revealed Kane was found to be Habitually Operating a Vehicle while Under the Influence of an Intoxicant (OVUII), a Class C Felony offense punishable by up to five years in prison,” said Lt. William Hankins, Commander of the Maui Police Department’s Traffic Division.

42 Arrested in Maui Impaired Driving Crackdown

Maui police made a total of 42 arrests for drivers operating a motor vehicle while under the influence during a three week campaign that ended on Jan. 1, 2014, officials said.
