Council panel to receive update on pilot project for overnight sleeping in cars

The Maui County Council’s Water Authority, Social Services and Parks Committee will receive an update Tuesday morning on the status of a Maui County pilot project to allow people to sleep in their cars in county-owned public parking lots.

“Bill protection” credit to end July 31 for Shift and Save pilot program participants enrolled since February

The Shift and Save pilot, which incorporates time-of-use rates that are lower in the daytime when cheaper solar energy is abundant, went live in February with 16,000 homes and businesses on Oʻahu and Hawaiʻi Island. Customers enrolled since February must decide whether they will continue beyond the six-month bill protection period.

Maui Council committee to receive presentation on road usage charge project

A Maui Council committee will hear a presentation tomorrow on a proposed road usage charge pilot project, a method to pay for infrastructure such as roads and bridges based on miles driven instead of gallons of gas purchased.
