HIDOE closes multiple schools on Maui today due to power outages, unsafe roads

Public schools in Hāna, Lahaina and Kihei will be closed to students and staff today, Friday, Jan. 10, due to power outages and unsafe road conditions caused by weather impacts. This includes: Hāna High & Elementary; Kamali‘i Elementary ; Kīhei Elementary; Lokelani Intermediate; Kūlanihāko‘i High; King Kamehameha III Elementary; Princess Nāhi‘ena‘ena Elementary; Lahaina Intermediate; and Lahainaluna High.

“It’s going to be a long process,” said Kā‘eo Blas, reflecting on one year since a fire burned down his home and much of Lahaina town. “Sometimes you think it gets better but it’s always there. It’s like losing somebody you love. You still get the memories, they’re still in your heart, but they’re not there. It’s not the same.”

HIDOE bus service for Lahainaluna High students to Kūlanihākoʻi High to begin on Sept. 14

The Hawai‘i State Department of Education will begin free bus service on Thursday, Sept. 14, for Lahainaluna High students to their temporary school site at the Kūlanihākoʻi High School campus in Kīhei.

School bus service to begin from West Maui to designated Central and South Maui schools

The Hawai‘i State Department of Education begins free bus service on Sept. 7, for impacted elementary and intermediate students from Lahaina to attend designated schools in Central and South Maui.
