#red flag warning maui

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning from noon today through Saturday afternoon for mainly leeward areas due to windy conditions and low humidity.

Locally strong trade winds and low relative humidity will combine with dry fuels to bring critical fire weather conditions for leeward sections of the islands from late this morning through the afternoon.

Lahainaʻs four public schools will be closed on Monday, Nov. 6, 2023, out of an abundance of caution due to the Red Flag Warning in effect for all leeward areas of Maui County and Hawaiʻi Island.

Winds are expected to be easterly blowing at 15 to 25 mph with 40 mph gusts. The National Weather Service says relative humidity will be as low as 40%.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures will create rapid fire growth potential.
