#Reef Friendly Landscaping

The Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa and Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa are now “Gold Certified” in Reef-Friendly Landscaping, according to the Maui Nui Marine Resource Council.

The Pilikahakai Foundation, a nonprofit rooted in Native Hawaiian values and dedicated to preserving Kāʻanapali Beach, hosted its inaugural Reef-Friendly Landscaping Summit over the weekend, aimed at advancing sustainable land care practices that protect West Maui’s coastline.

Maui Nui Marine Resource Council’s Jill Wirt is the guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Kīhei-Wailea’s upcoming meeting on April 9, 2025. Wirt will discuss the nonprofit’s Reef Friendly Landscaping Program.

The Maui Nui Marine Resource Council will host the November edition of its “Know Your Ocean Speaker Series” on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 5:30 p.m. via Zoom. Guest speakers from Maui Gold Pineapple and SoilThrive Hawaiʻi LLC will share insights into the Reef-Friendly Landscaping process and early observations from Maui Gold’s first test plot.

The Maui Nui Marine Resource Council will host its Reef-Friendly Landscaping certification course from Sept. 4 to Oct. 2, 2024. The course will be completely online and will teach professional landscapers, property managers, and agricultural businesses how to move away from synthetic products and transition to reef-friendly land-care practices. 

Maui Nui Marine Resource Council’s Reef Friendly Landscaping Certification Program announced its first fully accredited resort partner, Four Seasons Resort Lānaʻi. The resort was awarded Gold Certification for its new efforts to manage the property grounds organically.
