Maui severe weather updates for Jan. 30, 2025: Flash Flood Warning extended, severe thunderstorms in forecast

The National Weather Service has extended the Flash Flood Warning for the island of Maui in Maui County until 3:30 a.m. At 12:18 a.m., radar and rain gages indicated that heavy rainfall continues to move over Maui from the southwest.

Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Maui Until 6 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH for Maui County in effect until 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 9, 2017.

UPDATE: Honoapiʻilani Hwy (30) Flooding

The Honoapiʻilani Highway in West Maui is closed between North Kīhei junction in Māʻalaea to Papalaua Wayside Park in Lahaina due to flooding across the roadway.

Strong Thunderstorm Moves NE from Hāna to Maliko

At 12:39 p.m., HST, Doppler radar indicated a strong thunderstorm capable of producing waterspouts and winds of 34 knots or greater. The storm was located 28 NM northeast of Maliko Boat Ramp and was moving north at 20 knots.

Mayor Signs Emergency Proclamation; Boil Water Advisory Remains

Mayor Alan Arakawa signed an emergency proclamation today following torrential flooding through ʻĪao Valley that knocked out a waterline, flooded several homes with mud and debris and destroyed a significant portion of the County’s Kepaniwai Park parking lot area.

UPDATE: 5 a.m., 10/16/14, Ana Getting Closer, Hurricane by Friday

The current track takes the system 75 miles south and west of the Big Island of Hawaii on Friday Night and Saturday, passing Maui County on Saturday into Sunday, with impacts projected as early as Friday in the form of thunderstorms and heavy rain.

ANA has weakened slightly but the National Weather Service indicates even if intensification does not occur, impacts could still be quite severe.
