Maui police provide update on fatal shooting on Molokaʻi
*WARNING/GRAPHIC CONTENT: Maui police released body camera images from a deadly shooting reported Sunday on Molokaʻi. Over the course of about three minutes, officers are heard instructing the suspect over 70 times to drop a machete, and 29 times to move back. The man, later identified as 40-year-old Nathaniel Naki, was holding a two foot machete during the confrontation.

UPDATE: Two Men Hospitalized After Molokaʻi Shooting
As of Thursday, Oct. 15, both victims were in the care of the Queen’s Medical Center on Oʻahu where they are being treated for gunshot wounds. Police say one person remains in critical condition and the other in guarded condition.

Police, who have yet to release the suspects name, say the 39-year-old man with no local address, was shot multiple times by officers. During an initial investigation police recovered over 50 shell casings, nine of them from the perpetrator. Police say the man sustained an estimated 11 gun shot wounds that were located on various parts of his body from his legs to the top of his torso.

Maui police have since identified the deceased man as a 39-year old African American male with no local address, but have not released his name pending notification of next of kin.
