Hawaiʻi County Mayor Kimo Alameda announced that the County of Hawaiʻi has signed agreements for COVID-19 hazard pay with the Hawaiʻi Government Employees Association and Hawaiʻi Fire Fighters Association.  Additionally, tentative agreements are being finalized with the other two public sector unions representing County employees: the State of Hawaiʻi Organization of Police Officers and United Public Workers.

The State of Hawaii Organization of Police Officers and Maui County have reached a negotiated settlement agreement on hazard pay for Maui officers who remained on duty during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a SHOPO announcement.

New Maui Police Chief John Pelletier staunchly defended himself and his administration from the critical results of a survey taken by nearly 60% of his rank and file about low morale and staffing shortages.

A survey commissioned by the Maui Police Department union found the staffing crisis may get even worse in the near future due to low morale and low pay.

Today, former governor Lingle visited the State of Hawaii Organization of Police Officers’ Maui Chapter to accept their endorsement of her bid for the US Senate.

Mayor Arakawa continued to seek clarity on the HGEA contract agreement this week saying the current proposal is not optimum for Maui.
