Update: Snake spotted near construction zone in Pukalani is captured and euthanized

The Hawaiʻi Department of Agriculture says a resident saw children playing with a snake at about 3 p.m. yesterday. The 3.5 foot female gopher snake was captured and euthanized.

The snake was identified as a “Corn” snake. Corn snakes are native to the eastern United States but are also found in southern states such as Florida, and subdues its small prey by constriction. The corn snake can get as big as 6 feet.

Stowaway Snake Found Slithering from Backpack of Maui Visitor

The visitor, a 20-year-old Virginia man, had just arrived Monday night from Florida and had put down his backpack when the snake slithered out.
