Beginning Saturday, June 20, 2020 the Summit District of Haleakalā National Park will reopen for sunrise viewing through the sunrise reservation system on Recreation.gov.  Sunrise reservations allow access to the Summit District from 3 a.m. to 7 a.m. and can only be used for the day specified on the reservation itself.

Haleakalā National Park rangers have issued a reminder to the public that they are enforcing all regulations during the lapse in appropriated funds.

On June 1, 2018, changes to entrance fees at Haleakalā National Park go into effect with the cost of a Tri-Park Annual Pass going from the current $30 to $50.

The purpose of the EA is to analyze the impact of potential actions to manage sunrise summit visitation in a manner that provides for the safety of employees and park visitors; protects sensitive natural and cultural resources; and improves the visitor experience.

As of 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016; the backcountry area of Haleakalā National Park reopened at the Summit. Visitors should expect rainy, wet and possibly windy conditions.

Commercial-free days are opportunities for Kanaka Maoli to conduct traditional cultural practices in the park without commercial tours present.

Haleakalā National Park daily entrance fees will be raised to meet national standards with the per-person fee to change from $8 to $10 on June 1, 2016.

With ever-increasing numbers of sunrise visitors, park managers say they are being challenged to provide a safe and enjoyable experience while also protecting the sensitive summit environment.

The Haleakalā Visitor Center, located at the 9,741 foot elevation on the crater rim, will re-open at sunrise on Saturday, March 19, 2016.

The Haleakalā Visitor Center, located at the 9,741 foot elevation on the crater rim, will close for door repairs on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016, and will remain closed for four weeks, park officials announced.

Park rangers advise that visitors should be aware that they will encounter long lines at the park entrance station, and also advise that there is limited parking at the summit itself.
