#wailuku house fire

On Friday afternoon, fire fighting crews contained a blaze of a four-unit, multi-family house in Wailuku to just the second floor of one unit, according to Maui Fire Rescue.

American Red Cross volunteers from the Maui County Chapter responded to an early morning residential fire on Liholiho Steet in Wailuku. The Red Cross Disaster Action Team helped to coordinate emergency aid for the four adults and four children impacted by the fire.

Maui fire crews responded to a house fire in the Waiehu Heights area of Wailuku overnight.

The occupant reported that 30 minutes prior, they began charging a Lithium-ion battery in a USB charging device that was plugged into an electrical outlet. The charging device and battery was left on the bed.

Maui police have since identified the man as 94-year-old Shiro Sam Hironaka, and say the cause of death is pending autopsy results. Police have also estimated damages to the home at $630,000.

The house fire was reported at 6:21 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at a single-family residence located at 1364 Kakae Place.
