Haleakalā Crater Palikū Wilderness Cabin Reservation System to Open on August 23
Reservations for Palikū wilderness cabin will go live on Recreation.gov beginning Monday, Aug. 23, 2021 between 7-7:30 a.m. Hawaiian Standard Time. The first available date for a Palikū cabin reservation is Friday, Aug. 27, 2021. Reservations can be made up to six months in advance and will be available on a rolling six-month basis thereafter.
Time-Zone Snafu Led to Early Release of In-Demand Haleakalā Cabin Reservations
A problem with time-zone calculations was identified as the reason for the faulty early release of in-demand wilderness cabin reservations at Haleakalā National Park earlier this month.
New Reservation System at Haleakalā Cabins “Booked Solid” Within Minutes
Maui Now received complaints from individuals who tried to access the system only to find that many dates and popular weekend slots had already been taken. Visitors to the site report that within minutes after the publicized 7 a.m. opening, the site was booked solid through the end of the year.
