High Wind Warning to Bring 60 mph Gusts Across Islands

The National Weather Service is forecasting east to northeast winds of 25 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph through 6 p.m.  In Maui County, the highest peak winds so far have been gusts of 46 mph recorded early this morning: at Kāneloa, south of Mākena; and at Makapulapai near Kalaupapa on Molokaʻi.

PUC Decoupling Decision Implements New Electric Rate Setting Method

The Hawaii Public Utilities Commission (PUC) Wednesday issued a final decision on Hawaiian Electric Company’s 2009 rate request. That decision is expected to result in a small credit for Oahu electric customers and implementation of a new rate setting method called "decoupling". For Maui Electric, a subsidiary of Hawaiian Electric Company, decoupling will come a little later when the PUC issues pending rate case decisions.
