Christmas Tree, Electronics Recycling Offered on Maui

The County of Maui issued a reminder to residents that a variety of programs are available for recycling Christmas trees and unwanted electronics this holiday season. County parks, community centers or other County facilities may not be used for tree-cycling or dumping of unwanted items.

CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLING:

Trees being recycled must have all decorations removed, including tinsel, to allow them to be safely composted.

Tree recycling is available at the following locations:

Curbside Christmas tree pickup service will also be available for Pāʻia, Haʻikū, Makawao, Pukalani and Kula residents on Monday, Jan. 2, 2017, from 8 a.m. to noon. Pickup can be scheduled by contacting the Rotary Club of Upcountry Maui at (808) 878-2177.

A $10 donation is requested for small and medium trees, and a minimum donation of $20 per large tree is requested to help support the club’s community projects. Trees should be set out on the curb before 8 a.m. on the day of pickup.

Additionally, Boy Scout Troop 22 will be picking up trees on Saturday, Dec. 31 for a $10 donation for any size tree. All proceeds benefit Troop 22. Text your name, address and phone number to (808) 283-5622; deadline to reserve pickup is Dec. 30. Trees should be set out by the curb by 7:30 a.m. on the day of pickup.

ELECTRONICS RECYCLING

A special one-time holiday clean-up day is scheduled for electronics recycling on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017 from 9 a.m. to noon at the County-funded E-Cycling program at 901 Lower Main Street in Wailuku. The cleanup day is in addition to E-Cycling’s regular hours, which are Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Tuesdays from 1 to 5 p.m.

Items accepted at the E-Cycling program include computers, televisions, microwaves, cell phones, stereos, copiers, fax machines and other items with circuit boards. The service is provided free of charge; the public is asked to be courteous by not leaving any items at the gate after hours.
